Wake Up Gigs starts 2017 in style – photo round up
Live music for fans young and old returned to Concrete Space on Sunday as we had another packed four hour Wake Up Gigs show with three fabulous performances.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the show for us, is not just seeing the kids enjoy themselves but parents too. Wake Up Gigs was set up for parents first and we’ve hopefully made it possible for you to enjoy live music and bands again in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We got to chat to many of you on Sunday and were overwhelmed with the response and not just how much you enjoyed it but how rare it is for parents to get this type of experience. It makes all the hard work and effort worthwhile to know that what was not even an idea in our minds less than a year ago has developed into two great shows.
We were lucky to have some talented snappers along for the party on Sunday and we wanted to showcase some that have come in so far from Chris Gardner (www.stillsandmotion.me) below.
Itchy Teeth kicked off the afternoon with a high energy, fun and seemed to be enjoying the benefits of an afternoon show and their youngest ever audience. As their set closer, they chose to cover the iconic Like a Virgin which had everyone up on their feet and dancing.
The buggies were queueing up to get in as Joel Sarakula took to the stage with his super soulful, retro tinged, piano pop. The nomadic Aussie had literally stepped straight off the plane from a show in Germany the previous night and the audience was glad he stopped by en-route to the US – to entertain and soothe us on a showery afternoon in east London.
Peluché rounded off the afternoon with perfect three part harmonies, rhythmic beats and electronic heaven. We have to single out one young lady who was attending her first ever gig and her Dad had told us she has very particular musical taste (#goodparenting) who sat absolutely rapt in a mixture of awe and wonder at the talented band performing in front of her. It is these intimate, small moments that we hope capture what might just be the start a lifetime passion for live music.
We will leave you with a couple of quotes from parents:
“Just being able to hear to live music with my little one next to me is so amazing! We are from Canada and used to be so big on music festivals so this is truly special for us”
“I have never seen my daughter so calm and engaged in one thing. She wasn’t even fussed when her Dad had to leave early”
Thanks to everyone for their support. We will be posting more content from Sunday’s show later in the week. Comment below and let us know your experience. #wakeupgigs
